The captain of the motor vessel and one sailor are currently hospitalised after the vessel became engulfed in fire on Monday.
Police said Ramesh Maniram, the captain, and VentleJainarine, the sailor, were in the vicinity of the vessel’s engine along with three other persons when a loud explosion was heard at about 10:00 hrs and a fire erupted.
The fire reportedly spread quickly across the vessel, named“Three Brothers”, which was in the vicinity ofMoruca River; the boat eventually sank.
Maniram and Jainarine, who were the last to evacuate the vessel, received burns to their lower limbs
They are currently at the Suddie Hospital in a stable condition.
Up to news time, the names of the other sailors, who have rescued the victims, are unknown.
