A six-hour search operation by the Joint Services at the Mazaruni prison this morning unearthed four cell phones, five phone chargers, three USB cables, a memory card, 30 lighters, 15 smoking utensils, six improvised weapons and several other items.
A brief statement by the Guyana Police Force listed the items but did not state whether anyone was arrested.
Major works are currently ongoing at the Mazaruni prisons as the Government awarded a $3.5 billion contract to build a new wing to accommodate an additional 400 inmates.
