Guyana’s hunt for a Regional 50-over title ended on Thursday night when Guyana Jaguars were comfortably beaten by Windward Islands Volcanoes in semi-final two of the Super50.

Initially set 287 to win and book a place in Saturday’s final against defending champions Barbados Pride, Jaguars folded for 231 in 44.2 overs, losing by 52 runs via the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method.

The Jaguars batting failed miserably upfront, as they crashed to 108-7 by the 22nd over. It took a fighting partnership of 71 between Sherfane Rutherford and Veerasammy Permaul to take the Jaguars out of danger.

Rutherford topscored with 49 off 53 balls before he was run out, while Permaul made 37. Shivnarine Chanderpaul made 34, while Anthony Bramble and Christopher Barnwell chipped in with 27 and 25 respectively.

Kaveem Hodge picked up 3-49 for Volcanoes, who piled up 286-7 after being inserted to bat first. Tyrone Theophile made 107 to lead the batting effort, while Hodge made 57. Ramaal Lewis picked up 3-54 for Jaguars.

Guyana last won a Regional 50-over title in 2005 at Bourda.
