A pregnant mother of nine was on Monday remanded to prison on a charge of attempted murder.

Vanesta Creighton, 31 of Baramita, North West District was not required to plea to the indictable charge when she appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on February 23, 2018, at First Avenue, Bartica she wounded Cecil Hope with intent to commit murder.

Creighton’s lawyer, Latchmie Rahmat, during a bail application to the court, explained that her client is currently six months pregnant and was also badly beaten by Hope.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to the pregnant woman being released on bail on the grounds that the victim is still hospitalized.

Mansfield disclosed that Creighton stabbed Hope several times with a broken beer bottle on the day in question.

The Magistrate remanded the woman to prison and transferred the matter to the Bartica Magistrate’s court for March 8, 2018.
