Sparta Boss might be in a bit of a funk as they opened with an unexpected loss on the opening night of the Corona Futsal Tournament that commenced on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Tiger Bay won the match 3-2 after coming from 2-0 down in the match that showcased great futsal in the first half.

Jeremy Garrett scored in the opening minute for Sparta Boss, while Sheldon Shepherd quickly added to the lead in the third minute as the match looked like a blowout in the making. However, Alpha Fletchman’s back-to-back strikes in the sixth and seventh minutes quickly brought the game back to level pegging.

Both teams struggled in the second half, but a goal from Deon Alfred in the 19th minute won the game for Tiger Bay to upset the Sparta Boss team.

Meanwhile, Future Stars proved the most dominant side of the night with a 6-0 win over Campbellville Extreme.

Campbellville simply looked out of sorts in the match with their defence varying from bad to worse as Kareem Knights led the way with a double in the seventh and ninth minutes.

Curtez Kellman (9th), Akeem Anthony (11th), William Europe (13th) and Marvin Carter (19th) all scored solo efforts in the match.

Mocha and Plaisance had the most competitive match of the night with the East Bank outfit pulling out a 5-4 win against their East Coast opponents.

Steffon Ramsey and Dellon John put Mocha ahead 2-0 in the third minute, scoring seconds away from each other and Plaisance pulled one back from Kevin Liverpool in the fourth to end the first half.

Teon Jones scored to make it 3-1 in the 15th, while Akeem Thomas replied in the 16th. Ramsey would notch a double in the 17th and Kevin Agard scored seconds after in the 17th as well to expand the lead to 5-2.

Thomas in the 18th and Denzil King in the 18th as well would lessen the gap, but the late surge proved futile in the end.

In other results; Albouystown topped YMCA 3-1, Back Circle defeated Broad Street 6-3 and Leopold Street and Alexander Village drew 3-3. The tournament will continue on Tuesday evening at the National Gymnasium from 19:00h.
