A young medical administrator was on Tuesday charged with the murder of a 46-year-old businessman, who was attacked during his visit to a popular clinic at Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Neilson Sinclair, 29, was charged with the indictable offence when he appeared before the Sparendaam Magistrates Court, ECD.

Sinclair was not required to plea and was remanded to prison until March 23, 2018.

The victim, Hazrat Shaffi, had left his Industry, ECD home around 19:00hrs on February 23, 2018 to visit the clinic as he was experiencing intense pain in his legs.

The clinic, located in Temple Street, Ogle is operated by the father of the accused, Dr Nelson Sinclair.

A neighbour told News Room that when the businessman arrived at the institution, the younger Sinclair began to attack the man even before he came out of his vehicle.

The neighbour said Dr Sinclair tried to prevent his son from beating his client, but subsequently retreated after his efforts proved futile.

The businessman was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state and he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Shaffi succumbed to his injuries about 05:00hrs on Monday.

Family members are still baffled over what prompted the doctor’s son to attack the businessman.

They explained that Shaffi had been going to the doctor for years.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the businessman died from haemorrhage and shock due to multiple injuries.
