Driver robbed at gunpoint by woman, car torched

Police are on the hunt for a woman, who allegedly robbed a Corentyne Hire Car driver of $2,000 and his cell phone at gunpoint at #63 Village, Corentyne Berbice on Monday morning.

The woman also allegedly torched the man’s car – a 192 Toyota Carina – HB 7773.

News Room understands that 32-year-old Ravindra Mohabir of #59 Village, Corentyne, had just left a friend’s house after helping him fix his car when he was stopped by the woman at #61 Village at around 06:40hrs.

“The woman said she want go at #63 Beach to buy fish and ask how much is the fare and I told her $2000, she jumped in and she paid,” Mohabir told reporters.

News Room understands that as the driver made his way to the main entrance of the beach, the woman asked him to use another entrance. At this time, Mohabir said the woman pointed a gun to his neck and demanded that he hand over his cash.

According to the driver, he told the woman that he only had the $2,000 that she paid and his cellphone, which he handed over, but she became angry and told him to “get out the car and start running”.

Mohabir ran all the way to the Number 62 Village police outpost where he informed ranks of the incident; he and the police returned to the scene where they found his car on fire.

The woman was nowhere to be found. Investigations are ongoing.
