The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) of the Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into the alleged stripping of a teen at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport (EFCIA) by a female rank.

The police in a short statement today acknowledged that the search of the 17-year-old was conducted by a rank of the Force’s Narcotics Branch on Sunday, February 25, 2018.

The police said a statement has been obtained from the female rank who “denied to have conducted a cavity search of the victim.”

The victim was travelling to Barbados and according to an article in the Stabroek News, on Monday, the teen related that she was informed by the officer that she had to do a strip search and was directed to a room.

In that room, the teen claimed that she was asked to strip naked and the officer even inserted her finger into the teen’s private parts.

The young woman said she is seeking a public apology from the agency.
