A resident of Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara (ECD) has been apprehended and is being processed for court on a charge of robbery, allegedly committed on an off-duty Police Constable.
A police report noted that the 23-year-old cop was walking along Hinck Street, Georgetown about 09:15hrs yesterday, when the suspect, armed with a pair of shears, pounced and relieved him of a cellphone and $240 in cash.
“The quick-thinking policeman did not try to engage the robber but instead, made a thorough observation of him and promptly informed his supervisors,” the police report noted.
A short while later, a team comprised of a Cadet Officer, went to the Stabroek Market area and arrested the suspect under the “Clock”; he was found in possession of the victim’s property as well as the weapon used to commit the crime.
