Kalyan Tiwari beat off the competition on Saturday to lift the Kissoon’s Furniture Store’s golf title and one of four gift vouchers up for grabs. The veteran golfer produced a Net 67, which was the best on the day.

Tiwari said after the win, “The course was good, the weather was fine and I had consistently good driver strokes, along with a great short game.”

Other winning performances at the tournament were: Longest Drive – Richard Haniff (320 yards); Closest to The Pin – Mike Mangal; and Best Gross – Mike Mangal (78). Shanella Webster had the second best Net score of 69, followed by Mike Mangal with 70 and Gavin Todd fourth with 71.

Other top Net performers were Parmanand Persaud (72), Aasrodeen Shaw (73), Brian Hackett (73); and Mohanlall Dinanauth, Roy Cummings, David Harry and Aleem Hussain all bunched on 74.

Chief Executive Officer of Kissoon’s Furniture Store, Hemraj Kissoon, congratulated the winners and said his company is delighted to support the club through sponsorship. He also reiterated his backing for the work of the Lusignan Golf Club under the leadership of president Aleem Hussain.

Kissoon’s Furniture Store has been associated with the Golf Club for 50 years.

Meanwhile, Kissoon also commended former West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, whom he noted was one of Guyana’s greatest sportsmen, for being on hand to observe the day’s play.

Chanderpaul indicated that he was happy to be part of golfing in Guyana, and he was very pleased at the great improvements he saw at the Golf Club compared to his last visit, a while ago.

He gave his commitment to having a celebrity tournament in August 2018, which would involve many great cricketers who also play golf. He assured those present that once that tournament is a success he would have it become an annual feature of the Club’s calendar of events.
