30 years jail for rape of 8-Y-0

Collin Cummings was today sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by High Court Judge, Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall after he was found guilty of raping an eight-year-old girl two years ago.

Last week, Cummings was found guilty of the rape of a child under the age of 16 after a 12-member jury deliberated.

The charge stated that Cummings on August 20, 2016, in the county of Demerara, engaged in sexual penetration the eight-year-old.

After a probation report was presented today, Justice Morris-Ramlall stated that the nation’s children must be left alone and protected.

The state’s case was presented by Orinthia Schmidt and Seeta Bishundyal while Cummings was represented at attorney Clyde Forde.
