4 houses destroyed in Pike St. fire

Three houses were completely flattened while another was destroyed and a few others scorched after an early morning fire ripped through several buildings in Pike Street, Kitty in the wee hours of Wednesday.

There were no reported deaths or injuries but several families were rendered homeless and the fire resulted in millions of dollars in losses.

The victims are said to be staying at the home of Junior Natural Resources Minister, Simona Broomes while they await a visit from Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally who will be distributing aid.

News Room understands that the fire began around 03:00hrs in one of the wooden buildings and quickly spread to three surrounding houses. Reports are that two houses were scorched by the fire.

When News Room visited the scene, residents complained bitterly about the response from the Fire Service. According to one resident, “when the firefighters come, one house went on fire. When they left, three houses burn right down.”
