Guyana and West Indies A batsman Chandrapaul Hemraj has been ruled out of action for the next 4-6 weeks following a hamstring injury. He was picked for West Indies A three 50-over matches against England Lions, but will now play no further part in the series.

The left-hander pulled up with the injury in the first over of the opening game on Tuesday in Antigua after completing two runs off the first ball of the match, batting with skipper Kieran Powell.

Hemraj retired at the end of the over, without facing a ball. He later returned towards the end of the innings, hitting two fours in 12 in his debut game for West Indies A.

According to information reaching News Room, an MRI was done on Wednesday and it was determined that the batsman needed a period of rest to fully recover.

This is a setback for Hemraj, who has been enjoying a productive time with the bat over the past five months in regional cricket.

He was Guyana Jaguars leading runscorer in the Professional Cricket League Four-day tournament, tallying 623 runs with five fifties and a highest score of 90. His contribution was vital to Jaguars winning the title for the fourth year in succession.

Hemraj also had good returns in the Super50 Festival that followed, scoring 227 runs from nine games, with two fifties, the highest of which was 80.

At the Hero Caribbean Premier League Player Draft on March 1, he was bought by St. Lucia Stars for the August 8 to September 16 tournament.
