Joe Singh appointed Pro Chancellor of UG

The University of Guyana’s Council has appointed Major General (ret’d) Joseph Singh as Pro-Chancellor of the University.

The appointment was announced by Chancellor, Nigel Harris at a press conference at the conclusion of the council’s Annual Business Meeting on Thursday afternoon.

The Chancellor explained that the post required someone from the council and Major General Singh’s nomination received a unanimous vote.

Accepting the position, Singh said he is honoured to have been elected and committed to working in the best interest of the team and the university.

“I wish to thank you for the confidence vested in me by the council and I pledge to do my utmost to further the interest of the university,” the Major General (ret’d) said.

Singh has served in many positions in the past years including Special Assistant to President David Granger, Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, Head of the local office of Conservation International and Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission.
