Ibeniko Fredericks appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court today, where he pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously assaulting his 16-year-old daughter, causing her actual bodily harm.

Fredericks admitted to beating the child because she arrived home late from school on March 5 at their East La Penitence home. He was fined $100,000.

The court heard that on the day in question, the teenager responded to her father in a rude tone of voice when he inquired about her whereabouts after school.

According to the Prosecution, Fredericks became annoyed at the young lady’s response and snatched her by her hair, pushed her to the ground and slapped her several times. The court heard that the father then armed himself with a scrubbing board and dealt the teen several lashes; he also beat her with an iron pipe.

The young lady then went to school the next day with marks of violence visible on her body; the Headmistress noticed and reported the matter to the police.

In defending his actions, the unrepresented man told the court that he caught the teen with a cellphone, which she used to send nude photos to men via Whatsapp.
