West Indies top Group A with win over Netherlands

West Indies emerged top of Group A of the ICC World Cup Qualifier with a 54-run win under the Duckworth/Lewis method against Netherlands in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The Jason Holder-led side won their fourth match of the group to finish with an unblemished record heading into the Super Six stage.

West Indies posted 309-6 off 48 overs and Netherlands were 167-6 after 28.4 overs when rain intervened and brought an early end to the game. Netherlands needed to be at 222 at that point of the game.

Marlon Samuels finally got going

West Indies got fifties from three batsmen- Evin Lewis cracked 84 (92 balls, 6x4s, 4x6s), Marlon Samuels got his first substantial score of the qualifier, an unbeaten 73 (84 balls, 5x4s) and Rovman Powell followed his maiden century from the last game with a rapid 52 off 38 balls (2x4s, 3x6s).

Paul van Meekeen (2-37), Roelof van der Merwe (2-46) and Peter Borren (2-55) were the leading wicket-takers for Netherlands, who suffered three run outs in their innings and only got two substantial scores.

Wesley Barresi (64) and Ryan ten Doeschate (67*) apart, no other batsman got past seven. Kemar Roach, Kesrick Williams and Ashley Nurse took a wicket each. 

The Super Six stage will start on Thursday.
