GWI expends $2.3M in rent per month

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) spends $2.3M on rented buildings per month.

According to a document circulated on Monday at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), a total of $1,920,000 is being spent by the company every month to rent various buildings while $380,877 is being paid for electricity costs at those facilities.

The rental fees were requested by PAC member, Nigel Dharamlall at a previous sitting of the committee.

The company pays $100,000 per month for operations offices at Bartica, Region Seven and Lethem, Region Nine, to Gary DaSilva and Shawn Hopkinson, respectively.

In Georgetown, $400,000 is being paid to Ameera Kissoon for the rental of a building in Campbellville, Georgetown to house the Infrastructure Planning and Implementation Department, while $400,000 is being paid for space at Lamaha Gardens for GWI’s Secretariat/ Media and Communications Department.

The document also revealed that GWI pays $600,000 to Lennox Cush for an office in Kitty, Georgetown.

Additionally, $75,000, $60,000, $40,000, $35,000 and $110,000 are being spent to rent properties at Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice; Kitty, Georgetown; Anna Regina, Essequibo; Corriverton and New Amsterdam, respectively.

GWI pays the electricity cost at three of the rented facilities.
