The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 49-year-old resident of Number 5 Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB).
In a statement, the police said at about 06:30hrs on Friday, a motorcar driven by a 39-year-old resident of Bath Settlement, WCB was proceeding south along the western Carriageway when the pedestrian, Dwayne Craig who was standing in the corner of the said road, allegedly jumped into vehicle’s path and was struck down.
Craig was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is at the said hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem next Monday.
The driver of the motorcar is in custody and assisting with the investigation. A breathalyser test was administered and no alcohol was detected in his breath, the police said.
