Corona Futsal Super 16 wraps up tonight

The second set of Round of 16 games in the Corona Futsal will be played tonight (Saturday, March 17) at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue. 

Two exhibition games will get things started, followed by the opening Super 16 match between Xtreme Campbellville and Tiger Bay at 20:30h. 

This will be followed by a showdown between Alexander Village and West Front Road at 21:45. Match three will bring together Leopold Street and Show Stoppers at 22:30h, while rounding off the night would be Sparta Boss and Albouystown. 

The winners of these games will advance to the quarter-finals, fixed for March 20.

Meanwhile, a total of 34 goals were scored in four games as the first night of Super 16 action on Thursday at the same venue.

Recording wins and thereby advancing to the quarter-finals were Alpha Warriors, Future Stars, Bent Street and California Square.

In the opening game of the night, Alpha Warriors silenced Mocha 6-3. Three of Alpha Warriors players got on the scoresheet, with Opara Benjamin leading the way with a hat-trick in the seventh, eighth and 12 minutes.

Delroy Fraser betted a double in the third and 18th minutes, while Delwin Fraser accounted for the other goal in the 20th minute. Mocha got their strikes from Amos Ramsay in the 13th and 19th minutes and Steffon Ramsay in the fifth minute.

Game two produced the most goals of the night, 10, with Future Stars prevailed 6-4 over Sophia.

Future Stars were indebted to doubles from William Europe (11th and 13th) and Curtiz Kellman (13th and 17th), while Shane Morris opened the scoring in the third minute and Aaron Anthony added a goal seven minutes later.

Shemroy Arthur netted a double for Sophia in the fifth and 14th minutes, while Sheik Kamal in the opening minute and Desmond Cotton six minutes later accounted for the other two goals.

Bent Street had the widest margin of victory on the night, steaming pass Old School Ballers 6-2.

The consistent Pernell Shultz starred with a hat-trick (third, ninth and 16th), while Daniel Williams (eighth), Andrew Murray Jr (17th) and Kelsey Benjamin (19th) tucked in a goal each.

For Old School Ballers, Fabian Crawford (third) and Rashaun Ritch (14th) got on the scoresheet.

The final game of the night produced a tight win for California Square, who edged Back Circle 4-3.

Mishack Barratt (fourth), Ned Arazer (sixth), David George (10th) and Wesley Garraway (19th) scored for California Square, while Adrian Aaron (eighth), Donovan Francis (ninth) and Jermaine Beckles (15th) netted for Back Circle. 

The tournament, coordinated by the Petra Organisation, is sponsored by Corona, NAMILCO Wheat Germ and Hero Honda.
