The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Inter-Club cricket season will bowl off on Saturday with the hosting of the first round of the Elizabeth Styles Under-21 tournament at venues across the Ancient County.

The tournament would involve 19 teams and would be the second Under-21 tournament organised by the BCB in its 79-year history. The first Under-21 tournament was held in 2012 with the Blairmont Cricket Club emerging as champion. This tournament is being sponsored by Elizabeth Styles, a United States of America-based Cosmetics Company.

The Elizabeth Styles Under-21 tournament is open to players born on or after September 1, 1997 and would be played 50-over per side, bowling off at 09:30 hours.

President of the BCB, Hilbert Foster, stated that the Under-21 tournament would serve as a bridge between the Under-19 and First Division levels, while it would encourage Under-19 players to prolong their playing careers as some normally quit after completing the junior level.

Foster is also urging clubs to avoid bringing players from across the country as the BCB is organising tournaments to develop cricketing skills in Berbice.

Teams are also reminded that their players must be attired in white clothing, while walkover would be granted if any team (visiting or home) fails to turn up half hour after the scheduled start.

The fixtures for the opening round on Saturday (March 24) are:

Blairmont vs Young Achievers at Blairmont

Bush Lot Rising Star vs D’Edward at D’Edward

Bush Lot United vs Paradise at Paradise

Tucber Park vs Kendall’s Union at Kendall’s Union

Rose Hall Canje vs Young Warriors at Rose Hall Canje

Albion Cricket Club vs Port Mourant at Albion

Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets vs Whim at Whim

Kildonan Cricket Club vs Tamarind Root at Hampshire

Ramnarine Memorial vs Big Star at Bush Lot

The lads from Upper Corentyne have drawn the bye this round.

The second round of matches would be played on April 1 and among the players expected to play are Javed Karim, Alex Algoo, Steve Deonarine, Garfield Benjamin, Kevlon Anderson, Kevin Sinclair, Adrian Sukhwa, Samuel Kistasammy, Brandon Prashad and Kevin Umroa.
