As part of a continuing investigation into recent carjackings, ranks of the Guyana Police Force on Wednesday during an intelligence-led operation intercepted two vehicles and detained four persons in ‘A’ Division.

According to a police report, the chassis numbers of the vehicles appeared to have been tampered with and the drivers alleged that they were given the cars to operate by a close relative of a suspect who is said to be the mastermind of the carjacking ring.

Police are still on the hunt for the mastermind. The drivers of the alleged stolen car also told the police that they are also connected to one of the men who is on remand for five counts of Receiving Stolen Property and three counts of Imitation of Identification Mark.

In early February, the police made a major dent in the carjacking ring which has been plaguing the country. See previous story here: https://newsroom.gy/2018/02/13/10-hour-police-operation-nets-more-stolen-vehicles-car-parts/
