Alleged drunk driver placed on $1M bail for road death

A driver of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice was on Friday charged with causing the death of 54-year-old Donovan Baromasi of 86 Bloomfield, Corentyne, Berbice, which occurred on March 21.

The driver of vehicle HB 7178, 33-year-old Patrick King appeared at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga where he pleaded not guilty to Causing Death by Dangerous Driving, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Failure to Stop and Failure to Render Assistance.

According to the police, he was placed on $1M bail on the causing death charge and granted self-bail on the other charges.

His driver’s licence has also been suspended until the determination of the matter which has been postponed to April 23, 2018, for a report, the police said.

Baromasi was struck down along the Bloomfield, Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice. He was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A post-mortem on Friday at the Skeldon Public Hospital Mortuary by Government Pathologist Dr. Bridgemohan gave the cause of death as multiple injuries.
