Miner killed by falling tree

Police in ‘F’ Division are investigating the death of 46-year-old Emilo Rodney La Rose, a gold miner of North West District (NWD), who allegedly died after he was pinned under a tree.

According to a police report, at about 15:15hrs on March 21, La Rose and others were working on a pit in Kuribang Backdam, Region 7, which is owned by Stephen Edwards, a dredge owner of 4th Avenue Bartica.

News Room understands that La Rose was reportedly clearing land above the pit, while his colleagues were working in the pit. The workers heard when La Rose yelled and ran to his assistance when they saw a tree across his back facing flat down.

La Rose was subsequently transferred to Bartica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is currently at the New Memorial Garden Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination on March 26.
