Woman seriously injured in Houston accident

A 48-year-old woman is nursing several injuries to her body at the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was struck down by a hire car on Friday night on the Houston Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

News Room understands that Iona France was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state; she suffered a fractured left leg, fractured left hand, fractured left hip and punctured lungs.

The driver of the car, 42-year-old Oswald Michael of Agricola, EBD remains in police custody; a breathalyzer test was negative for alcohol in his system.

According to a police report, at about 19:50hrs, the hire car – HC 6412 – was proceeding north on the eastern side of the western carriageway of the road, while France was crossing the said road going from east to west.

According to the report, as the car approached the Meadow Bank Public Road, the woman ended up in the path of the car where the right-side front of the vehicle struck her.
