A farmer, his wife, and their four children are now homeless after a fire destroyed their two storey house at Mabaruma Settlement, North West District at around 11:00hrs on Saturday.
News Room understands that 51-year-old Rockhill Campbell was at the farm and his wife, Elaine Sam had just left home with her husband’s lunch when the fire engulfed the entire upper flat of the house. At the time of the fire, the four children were out fetching water for the farm.
It is suspected that after cooking, Sam may have accidentally left on the gas cooker, which may have caused the fire.
The farm is located about fifty feet from the house and it was the farmer who observed the fire and raised an alarm.
News Room understands that public-spirited citizens formed a bucket brigade and managed to extinguish the fire.
