Fee for use of Botanical Gardens, urban parks on Easter Monday

The National Parks Commission (NPC) will be charging “a minimal fee” for vendors and patrons who wish to take their vehicles into the Botanical Gardens, National Park and Joe Vieira Park on Easter Monday.

In an advertisement placed in the Sunday (March 25, 2018) daily newspapers, the Commission said the fees will be used primarily to offset the expenses incurred in cleaning the Botanical Gardens and parks of “the usual garbage and debris left in the aftermath of kite flying and picnicking at these venues.”

As was done last year, the NPC said at the Botanical Gardens and Zoological Park, entrance will only be permitted via the Vlissengen road gate while vehicles will be required to exit using the Mandela Avenue gate.

Meanwhile, at the National Park and the Joe Vieira Park, all events will be managed by a Lessee.

The advertisement also stipulates that vehicles are required to exit the facilities by 19:00hrs.

Patrons are asked to utilize the additional waste receptacles which will be placed at the locations.

The National Parks Commission is tasked with upkeeping and managing several parks and work in collaboration with the Local Government Authorities in the establishment of new parks.

Currently, it has responsibility for the National Park, Botanical Gardens, Zoological Park, Joe Vieira Park and Kaieteur National Park.
