A 22-year-old man was today charged with the offence of manslaughter after he allegedly stabbed to death his 18-year-old step son during a brawl.

Eon Charles appeared before Chief Magistrate (ag), Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on March 22, 2018, at Kariako Creek in the Barima River, North West District, he unlawfully killed Lawrence Leon.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Gordon Mansfield objected to Charles being released on bail on the grounds that he was captured by the police and taken to the crime scene during which he escaped but was subsequently recaptured by the police.

The Magistrate remanded Charles to prison and transferred the case to the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court.

According to reports, the victim was imbibing “local wine” with Charles, and his reputed wife on the day in question when an argument started during which Charles allegedly stabbed Leon in his left upper back.

Leon was admitted a patient and died while receiving treatment.
