Update: 5 injured in West Side accident

Five persons are hospitalised after the cars in which they were traveling, collided on the Zeeburg Public Road, West Coast Demerara at about 12:00hrs today.

News Room understands that motorcar – PTT 5552 – driven by 50-year-old Shameer Rahaman of Zeeburg, was proceeding east along the northern side of the road when it is alleged that the second car – PLL 4407 – driven by 62-year-old Roger Levans, overtook another vehicle and ended up in its path.

As a result, the two cars collided head-on.

The injured passengers have been identified as 41-year-old Bibi Singh, 47-year-old Ravindra Singh – both of Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo – and 60-year-old Leila Levans, who is the wife of one of the drivers.

Both drivers and passengers were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

Roger and Leila Levans, of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they are said to be in a stable condition.

Rahaman, Bibi and Ravindra Singh were admitted to the West Demerara hospital where they are also said to be in a stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
