Min. Ally receives award for advocating Women and Human rights
Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally has been given the International Leadership Award for her dedication and sterling advocacy for Women’s Rights and Human Rights.
The Award Gala, held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel, Kingston Street, was hosted by the United Bridge Builders Mission Incorporated (UBBM) on Saturday evening.
Minister Ally expressed her gratitude towards the organisation and noted that the award has served to encourage her to continue to do right by the members of the public.
Minister Ally assured that the ministry will continue to work assiduously to establish gender equality across Guyana as she called for partnerships between organisations and her Ministry to achieve this goal.
Earlier this month, Minister Ally represented the CARICOM region at the United Nations, Sixty-second Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
The organisation also unveiled “Project Save Life” in honour of the three notable persons who have since passed on; Commissioner of Police, Laurie L. Lewis DSM, Major of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Winston George, and a popular fruit vendor, Eusebia Boyle.
The UBBM under its motto, “Dedicated to serving with dignity and respect”, is a 501 C3 Tax Exempt Non- For-Profit Organisation registered in Greater New York and Guyana, with a mission statement to minimize hunger, poverty, the spread of HIV/AIDS, with a focus on the prevention of discrimination and violence against women and youths.
The UBBM is also partnering with the U.S based Non-Profit Organisation Guyana Action Committee to build a resource centre for abused women and children in Guyana by 2019 to provide empowerment training sessions for the women.
