Three men appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, jointly charged with the possession of 2.2 kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Mohammed Kadir, 38; Mark Gomes, 33 and Ryan Fowler, 33 were allegedly caught with the illegal substance on Sherriff Street, Georgetown on March 29.

Fowler pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to four years jail and fined $6M, while the two other defendants denied the allegation.

Kadir and Gomes were remanded to prison until April 13, 2018; attorney Mark Waldron represented Gomes and the others did not have legal representation.

Prosecutor for the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), Konyo Sandiford told the court that on the day in question at about 19:45hrs, ranks observed two vehicles that were parked suspiciously in the vicinity of Sheriff Street.

The court heard that Kadir exited one of the vehicles with a yellow gas cylinder and went other to the other vehicle which was being driven by Gomes with Fowler inside.

CANU ranks subsequently intercepted vehicle with the men inside and conducted a search when they found the drugs hidden inside the gas bottle.
