The Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) has filed charges of gross misconduct in public office against former Minister of Finance, Dr Ashni Singh and former head of the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL), Winston Brassington.

Both men served under the previous People’s Progressive Party (PPP) government.

Attorney, Anil Nandlall confirmed to News Room this morning that both men have indeed been charged and the case was filed with the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for hearing this morning.

However, Nandlall told News Room that Dr Singh and Brassington are out of the jurisdiction and he is not sure what will take place this morning at the court.

News Room understands that the charges stemmed from the sale of lands which were uncovered during the forensic audits.

Last year, SOCU had said it was making serious efforts to question Brassington and Singh in connection with the findings of the forensic audit into the management of NICIL.

Several files pertaining to this matter were sent for legal advice.

News Room will provide more information as it becomes available.
