COMMONWEALTH GAMES: Braithwaite ends as top Caribbean shooter

Guyana’s marksman Lennox Braithwaite finished the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, as the Caribbean’s top shooter in the Individual competition.

Competing on the last day of the Queen’s Prize Individual Final on Saturday, Braithwaite ended 18th overall, while fellow countryman Ransford Goodluck finished 24th overall and was the third best Caribbean shooter at the event.

Braithwaite amassed 396 points and 35 Vs during the three days of shooting, while Goodluck had 390 points and 31 Vs. Such was the intensity of the competition that Braithwaite, despite finishing 18th, was just eight shots off the gold medal performance. 

On the final day, which saw aims at 900 and 1,000 yards, Braithwaite recorded 75:5 and 71:3 respectively, while Goodluck managed 74:4 and 70:5.  

England’s David Luckman took gold with 404 points and 49 Vs, Australia’s Jim Bailey bagged silver with 403:50 and England’s Parag Patel took bronze with 403:45.
