A Corentyne family was thrown into mourning early this morning after an accident on the Number 58 public road claimed the life of 52-year-old Soorojnie Suraj.
The dead woman’s 15-year-old daughter Neha Sukra and 70-year-old mother Khimme Suraj are hospitalized.
News Room understands that at around 07:00hrs, a Toyota Spacio, HC 2217, driven by 25-year-old Avenash Premnauth of Crabwood Creek, slammed into a parked truck, GMM 9207.
Suraj, her daughter, and the elderly woman were in the back seat when the accident occurred; at the time they were returning home after dropping a relative at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
News Room was reliably informed that the driver, who is also an Auto Electrician and Mechanic, appeared to have ‘dosed’ off at the wheel.
The force of the impact caused the truck to move from its position.
“After the accident, me rush over and see the driver fuss. Me help he out and he sit down and couldn’t talk but me know he alive so me left him. By that time other people start coming out and them tek out wan young girl, she look ok and me try help wan old lady but she been a bleed bad from she foot. The whole thing bruck up bad and she unconscious but did breathing. But when we try to tek out the middle passenger, the lady nah move and we nah bother because we realize she dead,” Mohar Tulsie, an eyewitness told News Room.
Tulsie said the injured were taken to the Skeldon hospital by public-spirited citizens and he later learned they were transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
