The Department of Culture, Youth and Sport will next month launch its very first ‘Youth Business Summit’ aimed at encouraging young people to become their own boss.

Youth Director Melissa Carmichael told reporters recently that the activity is geared at addressing the high unemployment level among youths in Guyana.

The two-day event will provide aspiring entrepreneurs with the know-how in setting up a business.

The forum will also provide a platform for young people to pitch business proposals for a chance to win startup funding.

According to Carmichael, only ten persons will be selected to receive startup funding at the end of the summit.

She said they will also benefit from training, coaching and other capacity building exercises for their business.

Persons who are interested in setting up a booth or registering for the forum can do so by visiting their website at www.motp.gov.gy or the Department’s Main Street Office.

Meanwhile, at the forum, participants will have the opportunity to network with some major stakeholders, therefore, Carmichael is urging youths to come onboard.

The Youth Business Summit will be held from May 23 to 24 at the Pegasus Hotel.
