Essequibo beat Demerara; Berbice in control against U-17s

Essequibo stunned Demerara by six wickets on day two of the third and final round of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Hand-In-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Companies Under-19 Inter-county Three-day tournament at the Tuschen ground.

 Trailing by 103 on first innings, Demerara continued from their overnight total of 91-5 and tallied 136 all out in 43.5 overs. Sagar Hathiramani contributed 27 as the rest of the batting line up fell cheaply. 

Bowling for Essequibo, Sherlon Anthony picked up 5-36 in 13 overs to claim the Man-of-the-Match award. Support also came from Joel Fortune with three wickets, while Joshua Jones and Shane Wong collected a wicket apiece.

 Essequibo, set a target of 34, reached 36-4 in 9.5 overs. Bowling for Demerara, spinner Ashmead Nedd picked up three wickets, but his effort was not enough to save his team from defeat.

 

Final scores: Demerara 40 and 136; Essequibo 143 and 36-4. 

Over at Everest ground, the Select Under-17s beginning the second day on 76-4 were bowled out 111 all out in 49 overs in response to Berbice’s first innings 176.

 Andre Seepersaud contributed 26, while Yudister Persaud and Nigel Deodat contributed with 13 and 14 runs respectively. Kelvin Umroa bowled exceptionally well, collecting 5-34 and Kevin Sinclair supported with 3-11.

 At stumps, Berbice were 198-4 in 76 overs, enjoying an overall lead of 263 with a day to play. Alex Algoo scored 62 and Jason Sinclair 27.

 At the crease are Kevlon Anderson on 73 and Steve Deonarine on 19. Niron Bissu and Nigel Deodat have picked up 2-44 and 2-46 respectively. 

Scores so far: Berbice 176 and 198-4; Under-17s 111.
