A Rupununi Farmer was today sentenced to three years jail and fined $15,000 for planting cannabis.

Kenneth Thompson appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he admitted that on April 18, 2018, at Aruwau Village, he cultivated 12 prohibited plants suspected to be cannabis.

Thompson did not have legal representation and told the court that he and his brother planted the illegal drugs.

The court heard that police acted on information and conducted a search at Thompson’s farm when the plants were found.
