Guyana recorded its third straight win at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Sweden on Wednesday, comfortably beating neighbouring Brazil.
After recording 9-6 and 11-4 victories over Austria and Ireland respectively on Tuesday, the Guyanese pair of Rayad Hussain and Farzana Hussain teamed up to defeat Brazil’s Aline Goncalves and Marcio Cerquinho 6-3 in Group E round-robin action.
Guyana, slated to play The Czech Republic later today (Wednesday), is fourth on the table with three wins and three defeats after six outings.
Guyana is participating in the event for the very first time, as the Guyana Curling Federation was only formed in June 2016. Rayad and Farzana are the only two competitive athletes attached to the Federation at the moment.
Prior to the wins on Tuesday, Guyana suffered three straight defeats at the hands of world number one in Mixed Doubles Canada, Germany and the Korean team that participated in the recent Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
