On a day blessed with weather conducive for cricket, Berbice and the Select Under-17s emerged winners of round two of the Hand-In-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Under-19 Inter-county 50-over tournament on Tuesday.
At Lusignan, Demerara won the toss and inserted Berbice to bat first. Reigning Three-day champions Berbice made 224 all out off their allotted 50 overs.
Junior Sinclair top scored with 61 off 101 balls and Javid Karim and Alex Algoo also added 45 and 23 respectively, while Kevlon Anderson and Garfield Benjamin made 22 runs each.
Bowling for Demerara, Qumar Torrington picked up 3-20; Ashmead Nedd 2-37, while Jeremiah Scott, Stephon Wilson, Dwain Dick and Saadiq Khan collected a wicket each.
Demerara then folded for only 105 in 38.1 overs to lose by a whopping 119 runs. Adrian Hinds scored 32, Sephon Wilson 18 and Robin Williams 16. Bowling for Berbice, Keith Simpson dominated, grabbing 4-18, while Kevin Sinclair supported with 3-15.
Junior Sinclair was named Man-of-the-Match.
Over at Everest, Essequibo won the toss and decided to field. The Select Under-17s took to the crease and put up 131 all out in 47.4 overs.
Marvin Prashad top scored with a solid 63 off 85 balls, hitting four sixes and five fours in the innings. Support also came from captain Sachin Singh with 20 and Nigel Deodat 15.
Essequibo could only reply with 60 off 40.5 overs to lose by 71 runs. Number 10 batsman Beesham Moses topscored with 12 not out.
Man-of-the-Match Deodat was the most outstanding bowling, collecting 4-17, while Sheldon Charles and Seon Glasgow supported with 2-12 and 2-5 respectively.
