Man jailed for 3 years for less than an ounce of ganja

A 25-year-old miner was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $30,000 for trafficking cannabis on Thursday.

Ravi Dev Mohan appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate Court where he admitted that on May 1, at 4 Miles, Port Kaituma he had 25 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor, Arwin Moore told the Court that Mohan, who is a father of one, was caught by Police while on an ATV with the prohibited substance in his possession.

The cannabis amounts to less than an ounce.

News Room understands that the cops were on patrol duty at the Four Miles toll gate when they saw a Mohan on ATV, CH 3728. The cops requested a search of Mohan and reportedly found a black plastic bag containing several clear parcels with the suspected narcotics in his hoodie.
