IPL: Super Kings, Sunrisers win to stay top

Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad won on Saturday to maintain their hold on the top spots on the IPL table.

Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets, and Sunrisers topped Delhi Daredevils by seven wickets. With the wins, both teams are now locked on 14 points, but Sunrisers occupy the top spot, having played one less game than Super Kings.

In Pune, RCB could only put up 127-9 after being inserted to take first strike. Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Harbhajan Singh claimed 3-18 and 2-22 respectively as RCB struggled throughout, being reduced to 89-8 by the 16th over.

Parthiv Patel, opening the batting, topscored with 53 off 41 and Tim Southee, batting at number seven, made 36 not out. All the other batsmen were dismissed for single figure scores.

Super Kings responded with 128-4 in 18 overs, with Ambati Rayudu making 32 and MS Dhoni 31 not out. Umesh Yadav took 2-15.

Over in Hyderabad, Prithvi Shaw hit 65 off 36 (6x4s, 3x6s) and Shreyas Iyer 44 off 36 in Delhi Dardevils’ 163-5 after they opted to bat first. Rashid Khan took 2-23 for Sunrisers, who knocked off the target with a ball to spare, reaching 164-3.

Alex Hales (45) and Shikhar Dhawan (33) added 76 for the first wicket, before Kane Williamson sealed the win with 32 not out, in the company of Yusuf Pathan, who struck 27 off 12.

Tomorrow, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders play at 06:30h and Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals clash at 10:30h.
