4 years for unlicensed gun, ammo

A 33-year-old Labourer of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was yesterday sentenced to four years imprisonment for the unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

Police said that Rayfield Pickering appeared before Magistrate Alicia George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to the charges.

A police statement noted that Pickering was arrested on Sunday last at Victoria Road, Plaisance (ECD) with an unlicensed .32 revolver, along with two live rounds, a spent shell and an improvised pistol.

Police noted that as it relates to the improvised weapon, investigators are compiling a case file for Legal Advice.
