Police Headquarters Thursday reported a 13 percent increase in robbery under arms in cases where guns were specifically used, noting that six persons were murdered during robberies committed this year.

The figures account for Police records from January-April this year when compared to the same period last year.

The Police said that there was also a 17 percent increase in burglary but a decrease in robbery with aggravation.

In cases where weapons other than guns were used, there was a 32 decrease in robberies along with a nine percent decrease in robbery with violence.

Overall, the Police estimated a seven percent decrease in serious crimes.

“Once again, the Guyana Police Force wishes to publicly acknowledge the unwavering support it has been receiving from all sections of the society in the fight against crime which without a doubt is responsible for the reduction of serious crimes…,” Police headquarters stated.
