Suspect arrested for murder of fisherman
The fisherman who was found dead in a boat at the Number 65 Fishing Port was stabbed ten times about his body after he reportedly refused to stop smoking cocaine on the boat.
Dead is Devanand Jailall called “Shetty” of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
The Police on Thursday evening arrested the prime suspect, who was identified as 49-year-old Reggie Ramsammy called “Bai”.
A witness to the murder recalled that Jailall was cooking on the boat named ‘Master Roberto’, and smoking cocaine at the same time, when Ramsammy asked him to desist or go outside.
The eyewitness noted that Jailall refused to heed the warning when the suspect allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed the man to his shoulder, arm, neck, ear and other parts of his body.
Jailall collapsed and the suspect fled the scene but was subsequently arrested.
Meanwhile,Jailall’s sister, Dhanmattie Rampersaud, who arrived at the scene shortly after learning of her brother’s sudden demise, said she was shocked and in disbelief since it was only Wednesday last that “Shetty” visited her house; however, she was not at home.
She said he left a message indicating that he really wanted to see his 14-year-old son and that he would return the very next day; instead, she received news of his death.
