Third victim dies in horrific Highway accident

The female driver of the car which was involved in the May 13 accident on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway died at about 17:00hrs on Friday at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Shenelle Hughes, 31, resided at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. Her daughter, Arianna Hughes, 6, also died on May 15 while receiving medical attention at the public health institution.

Hughes’ two other children – Jada Enmore, 8 and Jayden Hughes, 9 – remain hospitalised.

The owner of the car Hughes was driving, Quinton Odle, 42, of Blankenberg, West Coast Demerara (WCD) also succumbed to his injuries at around 13:00hrs on May 17.

Police had reported that Hughes was heading east along the highway when she lost control of the vehicle while attempting to dodge a pothole and collided into minibus BHH 8451 which was travelling west.

The bus driver, who was identified as e 49-year-old Rawle McKenzie, also suffered injuries along with a number of passengers.
