Berbice Cricket Board assists aspiring home owner

Ruthel Henry’s dream of owning a home came closer to realisation on Sunday when the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) made a substantial financial donation to her cause.

Henry, an Office Assistant/Cleaner attached to the BCB over the last eight years, had long desired to build her own house on a plot of land she has at Edinburg, Berbice.

However, funding has always been an issue. On Sunday at the BCB awards ceremony, President of the Board, Hilbert Foster, made a passionate plea to those who packed the Albion Community Centre auditorium to assist in whatever way they can to ensure Henry’s dream is fulfilled.

As the basket went around, everyone dug into his/her pocket and just under $100,000 was raised to help Henry. Henry, who was deliberately invited to attend the ceremony late, was then presented with the cash upon arrival.

Foster said the initiative was conducted under the Board’s ‘Dare to Dream’ Programme. The BCB President also lauded the invitees for their generosity.

A visibly emotional Henry expressed gratitude to the Board for the kind gesture, and wished the executives well in their endeavours to promote cricket in Berbice. She also acknowledged the kindness of the audience in attendance, noting that the Almighty will bless them richly.

Henry said the cash will go a far way in helping to source material for the building she hopes to one day call her home.
