Robbery accused jailed for escaping police custody

A man who was caught in a Route 42 minibus after he escaped from police custody, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court Monday, slapped with two charges of armed robbery and a charge of escaping police custody.

David Alexander, 29 of Hadfield Street, Lodge appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It is alleged that on May 19, 2018, at Hinck Street, Georgetown he robbed Junior Azim of $5,000 cash. It is further alleged that on the same date on Regent Street, Georgetown, he robbed Johnny Lohan of an LG cell phone valued at $20,000.

He was remanded to prison until June 11, 2018, on these two charges.

Additionally, Alexander was further charged with escaping from Police custody.

He was caught in the minibus while at Industrial Site, Eccles, East Bank Demerara. He was sentenced to serve 18 months imprisonment for this offence.
