Guyana Goldfields employee found dead in pool of blood in apartment
Police are investigating the murder of 42-year-old Neil Whyte, who was found bound, naked and dead in a pool of blood Monday night in an apartment at Thomas Street, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown.
Whyte, who also resided in Canada, was a Supply Chain Manager at Aurora Gold Mines which is a subsidiary of the Guyana Goldfields Inc.
Whyte was found lying naked on his back; his hands were bound with a black plastic binder to the front and stab wounds were seen to his neck and other parts of his body.
The suspect in the murder has been identified as an ex-employee, 25-year-old Arif Alli. News Room understands that he is in police custody. He was arrested at his Vryheid Village, West Canje, Berbice, home about 06:30hrs today.
Reports indicate that Whyte returned from an interior location on Monday night and went to the apartment, however, he subsequently left and informed the Security Guard that he was going to pick up a friend at Thomas and Middle Streets.
News Room understands that Whyte returned with Alli and they went into the apartment.
At About 23:45hrs, the Security Guard saw when Alli exited the building with a haversack and told him that he [Alli] is going “pick up something.”
According to reports reaching News Room, it is the protocol of the company for persons staying in the apartment to ‘check out’ their visitor and as such, the Security Guard went to Whyte’s room when he made the gruesome discovery.
