Herstelling woman killed by abusive husband
Police have arrested 38-year-old Daniel Watson of Plantation Herstelling, New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, for the murder of his reputed wife, 32-year-old Lowtie Atwaroo, known as ‘Mona’ on Monday night.
News Room understands that the man reportedly beat and strangled the woman to death in a trench about 50 feet away from their house. Watson fled the scene after neighbours flocked to the area. The incident occurred at around 21:00hrs.
Reports indicate that the couple lived together for a number of years in a common law relationship at Plantation Herstelling, however, Mona ended the relationship due to Watson’s abusive behaviour.
She relocated with her father in the same community but on the day in question, she visited Watson and did not return to her father’s house.
Subsequently, neighbours heard a woman screaming and upon checking, they saw Watson on top of Mona in the trench. Residents shouted at him, after which he fled the scene and Mona’s motionless body was found in the trench.
