Husband kills young wife, ingests poison

Police are investigating the murder of a 20-year-old woman of Lot 123, Hope Low Land on the East Coast of Demerara, allegedly at the hands of her reputed husband.

According to the police, the woman, Deorani ‘Priya’ Dyal and the suspect shared a common law relationship. However, they separated about two months ago due to domestic issues and the suspect left the home.

The police said shortly after 09:00hrs this morning the suspect visited the victim and shortly, the woman was heard screaming and the 28-year-old suspect was seen fleeing the house.

Neighbours responded and found Dyal with several suspected stab wounds.

She was rushed to the Dr. Nicholas Hospital at Nabaclis, ECD, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The man, who reportedly consumed some poisonous tablets, was later arrested at Greenfield Village, ECD. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
