Police are investigating the murder of a miner, which occurred at Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD) at about 08:30hrs today.

Dead is 23-year-old Edward Beveney of Triumph, ECD, who was stabbed several times, reportedly by 35-year old Rawle Monrio of Ann’s Grove, ECD, who is under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

News Room understands that the men had an ongoing feud which stemmed from the sale of illegal drugs several years ago in Guyana’s interior.

According to information received, the suspect visited a shop at Beterverwagting and parked his bicycle, however, upon his return, noticed that it was missing.

After some enquiries, Monrio learnt that Beveney was in possession of the bicycle, which was subsequently returned by another person.

However, it is alleged that as the suspect was about to leave, he was confronted by Beveney who asked if he wanted “a story.”

It is further alleged that Beveney chopped Monrio on his left hand with a cutlass after which Monrio pulled a “jucker” from his waist and dealt Beveney several stabs to his left eye, chest and other parts of his body and they both fell to the ground.

The police were called to the scene and both men were taken to the Georgetown Public hospital where Beveney was pronounced dead on arrival.

The “jucker” was later handed over to the police.
